While the novel does reference many National Panhellenic Conference sororities, Benoit intentionally omitted her personal affiliation, and her hope is that every woman will feel as if the story was written especially for her. Because this book is for all sorority ‘girls’ out there, regardless of their personal letters, colors, emblems or creeds. Robin has served in officer positions for her sorority and Alumnae Panhellenic. She has said for many years that Thanksgiving at her home could be considered a Panhellenic meeting with the different sororities represented in her family. She graduated from college in 1985 with a degree in Journalism/Public Relations, and established her career in public relations/community relations for non-profit agencies and corporations. She believes it was her sorority experience which led her to pursue a path that was meaningful and helpful to others, and her desire to make a difference has also informed her work as a writer. Now a three-time author with two previous non-fiction titles, Robin penned her first book in 2010 after the amazing success of her daughter Jillian's vision therapy treatment. Jillian's Story: How Vision Therapy Changed My Daughter's Life was followed in 2014 by Dear Jillian: Vision Therapy Changed My Life Too, which she co-wrote with her daughter. Both books have since become staples in optometry offices across the country and around the globe. Though The Eighty-Year-Old Sorority Girls is her inaugural work of fiction, the novel is also rooted in her desire to share her personal perspective on loving someone with Alzheimer's. Her mother, June, passed away in 2017 after struggling with the disease for several years. As the book’s story evolved, the narrative blossomed into a tale of sorority sisterhood as Benoit reflected on the many special ‘sisters’ who made a difference in her life.
